Rudy Sunderman Nominated for County Legislator
Hundreds Attend Campaign Kickoff
On Tuesday, the Suffolk County and Brookhaven Town Republican committees today announced the nomination of Rudy Sunderman as their candidate for Suffolk County Legislator in the Third District. Sunderman is seeking the seat currently held by a term-limited incumbent. The announcement and kickoff event was attended by more than 200 area residents seeking change in the direction of Suffolk County.
The third district covers Mastic, Mastic Beach, Shirley, Bellport, Brookhaven, Yaphank, Moriches, and portions or Ridge and Center Moriches. A life-long resident of the community, Sunderman is well known for his involvement in local organizations, especially the Mastic Fire Department.
Sunderman has served as a fire chief in the Mastic Fire Department, commissioner in the Mastic Fire District, and as district manager for the Centereach Fire Department. He is also an instructor with the Suffolk Fire Academy in Yaphank and a former volunteer youth sports coach.
“I am honored by this nomination,” said Sunderman. “My entire career has been predicated on serving my community. Serving as a county legislator is another opportunity to help my neighbors and serve the people.”
“Rudy is a community hero; he is someone who has saved lives as a member of the fire department,” said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine. “He’ll be an effective advocate for the residents of the third district.”
Suffolk County Republican Chairman John J. LaValle noted, “As a local firefighter, Rudy Sunderman has spent years coming to the rescue of countless neighbors. As the Tri-Hamlet’s Legislator, he will continue answering the call to serve, and come to the rescue of Suffolk County residents – who are among the most overtaxed in the country.”
Sunderman identifies high taxes, lack of jobs, and the heroin epidemic as top issues facing the community. He’s opposed to new taxes and fees, supports the sewer project as a way spurring economic development, and, as a first responder, has seen first-hand what heroin is doing to our friends and neighbors.
“We can turn it around. I know we can,” added Sunderman. “But we can’t do it alone. Working together we can make a difference. We will make Suffolk County a great place to live, work, and raise our families.”
The kickoff event raised over $30,000 for the campaign. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th.
